NEW CHRISTIAN ICONS are a form of visual symbolic language while also telling the story of the Gospel and Old Testament. They show us the way to deeper relationship to God. As each element in an Icon is there for a reason, they tell the Gospel story while also conveying the qualities and deep spirituality of the saint depicted.
It takes many, many hours to write (paint) an icon. The icon board itself takes days to prepare, and the careful drawing and application of layers of rich luminous paint take weeks and months to create. I don’t do this for money, but it does take money to pay for all the materials and related expenses. The cost of each icon doesn’t pay the iconographer even a menial wage! But it is a practice of prayer, creativity, and deep connection with the saints depicted. The hope is that this prayerful experience gets transmitted to all how view the icon, because there is nothing on this earth worth more than communion with God!
